Ask Congress to support the “Bone Health Promotion and Research Act”

Send a letter to your Representative asking them to cosponsor the “Bone Health Promotion and Research Act,” H.R. 3856, which would create a national bone health program.

H.R. 3856, introduced on October 20, 2009 by Representatives Berkley (NV-1) and Burgess (TX-26), would implement some of the recommendations in the National Action Plan for Bone Health, which is the result of the U.S. Surgeon General’s Call to Action and the 2008 National Summit on Bone Health.

Ask Congress to secure the highest funding level possible for the
National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Fiscal Year 2010 (FY 2010)!

Congress is working to finalize appropriations as the beginning of the fiscal year was October 1. Send a message to you Members of Congress TODAY!

The House of Representatives approved $31.3 billion for NIH, a 3.1% increase over FY 2009, while the Senate Appropriations Committee has recommended $30.8 billion. As Congress negotiates the final appropriations we urge you to ask your Senators and Representative to support the higher funding level of $31.3 billion for NIH.

Increased research funding at NIH will lead to discoveries of new ways to prevent, treat and cure diseases like osteoporosis. Investing in NIH supports life-enhancing research and saves lives. It also contributes to a more dynamic domestic economy invigorated by biomedical investment!

Ask Congress to Protect Patient Access to Osteoporosis Testing in Health Care Reform!

The “Medicare Fracture Prevention and Osteoporosis Testing Act of 2009” S. 769/H.R. 1894 would roll back Medicare reimbursement cuts for DXA testing and authorize a study of how these cuts would impact patients. In the coming weeks, Senate and House Committees plans to begin voting on health reform legislation. We need you to ask your Members of Congress to support the inclusion of S. 796/H.R. 1894 in health care reform!
